This area is constantly under review, partly because of the planning of a number of new highways and fly-overs to serve as access roads to Stellenbosch. The planned upgrade of the R44 is just one example. Fabio Todeschini is Professor Emeritus at the University of Cape Town and has been a visiting professor at universities in France, India and China during the past year. In November of the current year he will be the guest speaker at the international conference of ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) in Florence, Italy. His lecture there will deal with the connections between people and the material world, with the Cape Winelands as example.
