Stellenbosch Erfenis Stigting (SES) het in reaksie op die publikasie van Stellenbosch Munisipaliteit se voorgestelde Soneringskema Verordening 2024 kommentaar gelewer, veral rondom straatskappe, dit wil sê die aansig en voorkoms van ‘n straat. SES stel voor in aansoeke om te ontwikkel in ‘n straat wat binne ‘n verklaarde erfenis-sone val moet die aansoeker aandai hoe die voorgenome ontwikkeling die straataansig binne 100 meter weerskante van die ontwikkeliing sal verander. Pas dit in, verd op skaal, of nie?
Internasionale stadsbeplanners aanvaar die doel en funksie van strate is meer as net motoraangedrewe Vervoer. ‘n Straat is ook ‘n plek of bestemming binne ‘n buurt. Strate dra by tot die tekstuur en kultuur van ‘n buurt.
Veral in Europa word verkeer in ouer dorpe streng bestuur. Ongebreidelde verkeer verwoes die kultuur en tekstuur van strate.
Stellenbosch Erfenis Stigting verwelkom die gesamentlike besluitnemingsprosesse wat die Munisipaliteit fassiliteer.

In response to Stellenbosch Municipality’s invitation for comment on a proposed new Zoning Scheme By-law, the Stellenbosch Heritage Foundation submitted recommendations focused on streetscapes. The recommendations related to heritage characteristics and how any development will impact the use and visual appearance of heritage objects, structures, or areas within 100 meters of a planned development, as well as the appearance of the street. As such, all new developments should be regulated with care.
International city planners recognise that streets have a function that extends far beyond motorised transport. Streets are places or destinations within an area or neighbourhood, contributing to its texture and culture.
Traffic is strictly managed in most of Europe’s older towns and villages. Unmanaged traffic destroys the culture and texture of the streets.
Stellenbosch Heritage Foundation welcomed the collaborative decision making process that the Municipality facilitates.
