Elke jaar groei die aantal toekennings vir die mees leefbare stede in die wêreld. Die mees bekende toekenning word deur die Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) gedoen. Die EIU het vir die derde agtereenvolgende jaar Wene as die mees leefbaarste stad gelys, terwyl Kopenhagen, Zürich, Calgary en Genève onder die top vyf geval het.
Nog ‘n bekende toekenning is die Oxford Economics se lys van mees leefbare stede, wat vanjaar New York, Londen, San José (VSA), Tokio en Parys in die top vyf posisies gelys het.
Onlangs het die tydskrif Time Out vir Kaapstad as die beste stad in die wêreld gelys.
Die kriteria vir hierdie opnames word bepaal deur die doel agter elke indeks. Time-Out fokus byvoorbeeld meer op leefstyl-voorkeure en meningspeilings lê klem op naglewe, kos en vriendelike diens terwyl toerisme ‘n belangrike fokus is. Every year the number of awards for liveable cities are growing. The better known of these awards is the liveability index, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The EIU had Vienna for the third year in a row as the world’s most liveable city, with Copenhagen, Zurich, Calgary and Geneva in the top five. Also well-known is the Oxford Economics list that had New York, London, San Jose (USA), Tokyo and Paris in the top five. Recently Cape Town was voted the best city in the world by Time Out magazine.
The criteria for these listings are based on the purpose behind each index. Time-Out for instance is oriented toward lifestyle preferences. Surveys often emphasize nightlife, food, friendliness and tourism is often the focus. The Economist Intelligence Unit and Oxford Economics listings are compiled based on scientific data collection methods and criteria that outline longer term quality of life as well as business opportunities.
