Marius le Roux, previously director of the Stellenbosch Museum for 32 years, was honoured as a custodian of cultural possessions along with Simon Adams, Lourens du Plessis and Victor Honey.
They received mayoral honours from the outgoing mayor, Condrad Sidego, in July.
- Reverend Adams, peacemaker and struggle activist, was honoured as one of the facilitators of the Stellenbosch Discussion Forum that led to the establishment of Stellenbosch’s Transitional Council in 1995.
- Professor Du Plessis, served as an advisor and mediator on the Stellenbosch Discussion Forum and was actively involved in the multi-party negotiation process at the World Trade Centre, Kempton Park, in 1993.
- Victor Honey chaired the Stellenbosch Local Negotiation Forum for three years leading to the single local government structure. He played a leading role in the arts and also as a mediator in community and protest activities.
- Marius le Roux, an active conservationist, became director of the Stellenbosch Museum when it consisted of only one building and grew it into a complex of fourteen buildings and three rented properties.
