Description
The historic structure is almost incidental to the site, whose activity is focused in the adjacent amphitheatre structure, which houses a weekly farmers' market. The vineyards between the R310 and the buildings create an "agricultural forecourt" to the precinct that plays a gateway role when entering the town of Stellenbosch from the south.

Statement of Significance
This site has heritage importance as a whole, rather than due to the outstanding value of any one of
its elements. The foreground of vineyards, and the well-treed building surrounds set back from the
road, create an important gateway moment along the road into Stellenbosch. The historic cottage
and the modernist structure have architectural interest. The site has high scenic, landmark, historic
and architectural significance.
