Statement of Significance

A fine, restored farmhouse and core werf, although with some unfortunate hotel infrastructure and buildings alongside it. The historic area is seen against a foreground of vineyards and a backdrop of the peaks surrounding the Jonkershoek Valley. The site has high historical, architectural, contextual, landscape, scenic and associational significance. It has a direct association with the history of slavery at the Cape. The site is a national monument and is deserving of its PHS status.
