Statement of Significance
The farm is located within the culturally rich Grade 1 Ida’s Valley context. The old pass over “Die
Hel” is of heritage significance, and was of historical importance in the development of the wider
Stellenbosch Municipal area.
Landscape Significance
Mature trees contribute to the rural character of the valley. The network of windbreaks, which divided
the landscape into a checkerboard of "rooms" in the heyday of fruit farming, is still evident in parts,
notably Kelsey Farm and High Rustenberg, but much reduced elsewhere in the valley (Kantor et al,
2008: 25).
