Description
Single storey, pitched roof buildings with rectangular plans and end gables, arranged to enclose a rectangular courtyard space. The buildings have tall, vertical sash windows set high in the walls, with an expressed plinth. A lean-to roof encircles the courtyard space.

Interior Description
History
Originally a missionary community for emancipated slaves established by Barnabas Shaw following <br />
the abolition of slavery at the Cape in 1834. The original lots were rented out to 800 freed slaves.

The school is located adjacent to the commonage and the church, and forms part of the "civic
head" of the settlement. In architectural style, it is highly representative of school buildings.

The Raithby Methodist Primary School, together with the commonage, the streets and the church,
creates the "civic structure" for the settlement. The school has high historical, social and contextual
significance. It additionally has some architectural significance. It has a strong association with the
history of slavery in the winelands.
Landscape Significance
A row of ficus trees separates the school from Raithby Road.
