Statement of Significance
While the house at Old Orchard is not of great age, nor of architecural distinction, the period
houses and in this area, with their planted cadastral boundaries, introduced new patterns to the
landscape in the early part of the 20th Century, and so is of historical and cultural interest, reflect ing the ongoing evolution of the practice of agriculture in the valley and patterns of dwelling in this
particular rural landscape. While it is located within the culturally rich Grade 1 Ida’s Valley context,
the individual structures on the property would not warrant a very high heritage grading.
Landscape Significance
The landscaping of this farm, and farms of similar age, is established and consists of species that were
fashionable during the early 20th Century, and were useful for promoting pollinisation of orchards.
