Statement of Significance

This site displays a distinctive palm tree, and is a landmark building (1937). This site, and similar ones within "Die Vlakte," make tangible the absence of the community forced out under the Group Areas Act, with the demolition of their homes that followed their removal. This site in particular, as a school, has high social, associational, historical and intangible significance.
