Description
A linear werf space set along the contour of a valley, with a long approach avenue defined by Stone Pines, that then kinks at the old gateposts, and is then defined by rows of Oaks. The finest buildings are set along the southern edge, including the very fine and intact homestead and jonkershuis. Cape Dutch, with a very fine Victorian structure/house to the side of the road as you approach the werf. The main dwelling house has some original fittings and fixtures internally. The gardens within the werf are formal, and would not likely have been part of the historic werf space. Regardless, there are mature trees surrounding the werf that are part of an older landscape pattern.

A very fine werf, if overly worked in terms of landscaping and some modern additions.

Statement of Significance
This is an old National Monument site. The avenue of stone pines is of the highest degree of
landmark significance within the context of the Winelands, and the werf remains an extremely fine
and layered Cape Dutch example. The site has historic, architectural, aesthetic and contextual
significance. It has an association with slavery. It is a rare example of a highly intact, historic, linear
Cape Dutch werf.
Landscape Significance
High significance, particularly the approach avenue.
