Description
Complex with trout hatchery. Sturdy dressed-stone hatching-house, situated amongst a clutter of office buildings. Two original trout dams (unaltered) form part of the site. Large remnant trees including Yellowoods (Podocarpus henkelli).

Interior Description
History
Government initiative to stock the Eerste River with a larger fish species (trout) than the indigenous. <br />
This hatchery apparently stocked the rivers all the way to the Eastern Cape.

Heritage Vulnerability
Number of invasive elements dominate, and detract from the sense of place. The site is dormant and is in a delapitated condition. Great risk of being forgotten for future generations. Issues of security might impact the current set-up. A decrease in water.

Statement of Significance
This site has a high degree of historical interest, as well as scientific interest. It is a unique and rare site
within the winelands, and has associations with the development of aquaculture and farm fishing in
the Province. Additionally, the site has scenic significance.
Landscape Significance
A few large trees are found in the direct vicinity. Remnants of a older larger tree is found close to the
building. Although altered the other trout dams needs to be preserved as part of the trout hatchery.
