History
The valley as a whole was granted in Francois Villon in 1683, and Ida Minor (or Klein Idasvallei) was
subdivided off and transferred to Gerhard Cloete in 1692. It was transferred to Albert Lambertz
Myberg in 1719, and then was transferred a further 4 times in the 1700s, until it came into the
ownership of Samuel Johannes Cats in 1780 (who acquired Ida’s Valley shortly thereafter). See
Van der Bijl, J. Die Grondeienaars van Stellenbosch, 1693 - c.1860.

Statement of Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The valley as a whole was granted in Francois Villon in 1683, and Ida Minor (or Klein Idasvallei) was
subdivided off and transferred to Gerhard Cloete in 1692. It was transferred to Albert Lambertz
Myberg in 1719, and then was transferred a further 4 times in the 1700s, until it came into the
ownership of Samuel Johannes Cats in 1780 (who acquired Ida’s Valley shortly thereafter). See
Van der Bijl, J. Die Grondeienaars van Stellenbosch, 1693 - c.1860.
SITE HISTORY
The farm formed part of the 1976 National Monument declaration of several properties within Ida’s
Valley. The declaration noted that Ida Minor comprises portions of “Groote and Klein Ydas Vlei
and Nazareth”. While the statement of historical and architectural interest accompanying the
declaration does not mention the Ida Minor homestead specifically, it does note the “unique rustic
character and natural beauty” of the valley.
Landscape Significance
The homestead site is heavily treed, with its western edge following the course of the Krom River.
