Description
A linear werf with an H-shaped homestead with later front and end gables, flanked on either side by outbuildings that project slightly forward, with metal roofs and holbol end gables. Another outbuilding delineates the edge of the werf, and the whole is set on a contour set above the Eerste River, but facing towards the river. There is a fowl run, and the gardens have been formalised, and would not likely have been part of the historic werf space. Regardless, there are mature trees surrounding the werf that are part of an older landscape pattern.

Interior Description
History
First granted in 1695 to Pierre le Febre, a Hugenout, and named after the town Fleurbaix in Picardie.
The house is said to date from 1768, with the end gables and front gable added in 1800, when Paul
Roux was the owner (Fransen, 2004: 233).
Grouping with other sites
The site contributes to the understanding of the historic pattern of settlement between the R310 and
Eerste river.
Evidence of Demolition
Contextual Design
The site has very high contextual significance, being a very intact Cape Dutch werf with a fine sense
of place.
Invasive Elements
Offices and Agri-industrial structures behind the werf
Heritage Vulnerability
This site is particuarly vulnerable to agri-industrial development, which has already impaced the site. The suburban sprawl of Stellenbosch is a real threat to this unique heritage site and its broader landscape.

Statement of Significance
While none of the individual elements within the werf are seen to be worthy of Grade II status, as a
whole the werf is an important historic space and exhibits a pattern of farming and settlement along
the Eerste River, as well as exhibiting some original fabric of some age. The site has a high degree of
architectural, aesthetic/contextual, scenic and historic significance.
Landscape Significance
Rows of oak trees edge the werf space. Linear plantings contribute to the sense of place.
