Statement of Significance
This site has a high degree of architectural significance, as one of the finest examples of a Cape
Revival house within the winelands. In the 1980s, the building - then an hotel - was used for music
concerts that were associated with the Voelvry Movement (a genre of anti-apartheid Afrikaans
music). It is currently used by the Sustainability Institute of the University. The site has a high degree
of architectural, landmark, historical, artistic and contextual significance. It is a landmark site along
the R310.
Landscape Significance
