Statement of Significance

This site has a high degree of social and historical significance, having been a VOC buiteposte and to British government officials such as William Duckitt and Captain John Pigott Watney, and architects such as LM Thibault (Fransen, 2004: 206). The site retains a degree of architectural interest, as well as contextual significance and association with slavery and the claiming of historic Khoi grazing areas by the Dutch settlers.
