Description
The rise to the south of this landscape shields the R44 and suburban development from view, creating a visual continuum between the Eerste River corridor, the agricultural fields in the foreground, and the foothills and high peaks of the Helderberg Range beyond. This sub-valley also enjoys unique views of Stellenbosch town to the north, with a clear view to the spire of the Dutch Reformed "Moederkerk".

Heritage Vulnerability
This landscape unit is particuarly vulnerable to agri-industrial and office park development, which has already impaced the site. The suburban sprawl of Stellenbosch is a real threat to this unique heritage site and its broader landscape.

Statement of Significance
This landscape unit is the site of two extremely fine farm werfs of very high heritage significance. The
landscape unit demonstates the relationship between river corridor and settlement, as well as the
rural patterns of use and the wilderness beyond. This interplay is extremely characteristic of the
Cape Winelands, and key to its high cultural significance.
