SITE & STRUCTURE DESCRIPTION: | The site could not be accessed. The gateposts seem to be in the Cape Revival style, and several mature trees could be observed from the entrance gates. | ||||||
History: |
The valley as a whole was granted in Francois Villon in 1683, and Ida Minor (or Klein Idasvallei) was subdivided off and transferred to Gerhard Cloete in 1692. It was transferred to Albert Lambertz Myberg in 1719, and then was transferred a further 4 times in the 1700s, until it came into the ownership of Samuel Johannes Cats in 1780 (who acquired Ida’s Valley shortly thereafter). See Van der Bijl, J. Die Grondeienaars van Stellenbosch, 1693 - c.1860. |
