Heritage Analysis
SITE & STRUCTURE DESCRIPTION: A rare U-shaped homestead, flanked by outbuildings and with a linear cellar set to the front, and a threshing floor in front of this. The homestead is reached via a long avenue from Blaauwklippen Road. All gables are clipped, and the date 1835 can be seen, attributing the buildings to Van Brakel. Mature trees planted in linear patterns reinforce the sense of the whole. A historic lime kiln is the last structure of this type in the Stellenbosch district.
