Heritage Analysis
SITE & STRUCTURE DESCRIPTION: "H-shaped thatched house with Neo-Classical pediment gable with 15x15 casement. Bo-en -onder door with 20-pane fanlight and early plaster architrave, flanked by half-casements and 15x15 casements, all with solid shutters. Straight back gable (spurious - Fransen & Cook) and modern pergola with old vine.Fine capped wall with half-scrolls at gateways. The wagon house attached to the south side of the house and the cottage facing Market St known as the van der Riet House were demolished."  
History: "Anthonie Fick gained possession (but not transfer) of the site in 1796 and completed the house the following year. It was transferred to the Landdrost Ryno Johannes van der Riet in 1815 (he had probably been in possession since Fick's death in c1808) and to Rev Paul Daniel Luckoff, the Rhenish missionary, in 1839, serving as the Rhenish parsonage. In 1879 it passed to the Rhenish Mission Society. It was eventually divided up and inhabited by several families, and fell into disrepair.
