Stellenbosch Erfenis Stigting: Moderne Stellenbosch

Alle belangstellendes is welkom.

  1. Thank you for a very interesting evening!
Stellenbosch can be proud of the Pius Pahl houses and those designed by other excellent architects.
It is a great pity that Pius Pahl’s brilliant student, Aardt Bijl, left the country shortly after his masterpiece, De Hoogste Hoek, was completed for Kees Bruynzeel. By then a Professor at the University of Edinburg, Bijl returned 25 years later and paid a visit to this gem of a house he had designed. We have been the happy owners since October 1981.
Aardt was delighted to see the good shape the house was in. He told us a lot about the details and history and how it was the best commission he ever had. Kees Bruynzeel wanted to show what one can do with wood and money did not matter.
Many architects were involved in further planning the details and making calculations. The professor of Engineering, Marius Louw, made the calculations on the hyperbolic paraboloid of the roof and the angle it needed to be fixed. The roof was build first before the rest of the house!
Considering the precious building materials and the involvement of so may experts it is not surprising that the building costs turned out to be 10 times higher than those for a normal house in 1962.Please find more information at http://www.LandmarkHouse.com
We are getting old and will have to move, soon. Our great concern is that the house will fall into the wrong hands.
